Your Favourite Places in Wales (Part 2)

Pen y FanWhilst Snowdon, as the highest mountain in Wales, is understandably on your list of favourite places in Wales, so too is the highest mountain in the Southern half of the country - Pen y Fan.

Situated in the Brecon Beacons, Pen y Fan climbs to 886 metres and is very popular with walkers.

Those climbing the mountain from the Storey Arms side will pass a memorial obelisk.  It was built in memory to a five year old boy called Tommy Jones who, in 1900 got lost whilst visiting his grandparents.  After a 29 day search his body was found having died from hypothermia.  The obelisk marks the spot where his body was found.

The views from the top of the mountain are spectacular.  On a clear day you can enjoy vistas of the Southern Wales Valleys, the Bristol Channel and beyond to Exmoor to the South, Cardigan Bay to the West and the Cambrian Mountains to the North.
