The
biggest cycling event rolls in to Southern Wales this weekend with
the 8th staging of the Wiggle Dragon Ride.
Starting from Pencoed, near Bridgend the course takes competitors
out along the Golden Coast of Southern Wales before heading inland
to tackle the steep climbs and fast descents of the Southern Wales
Valleys and Brecon Beacons National Park.
The ride has been voted Britain's favourite Sportive by readers of
"Cycling Weekly" for the last three years.
4000 hardy cyclists will compete over a choice of three different
routes, a 45km course, a 120km course or the mighty Gran Forno at a
mamouth 200km in distance. The length of the course will not
be the only challenge they face as the riders will have to
undertake some of the most gruelling climbs in the country,
including the Rhigos and the fearsome Bwlch (twice!)
The views along the route are sure to be spectacular, I only hope
the riders are able to appreciate them!
Here's a video of the climb up the Bwlch to give you an idea of
what the cyclists face
