Olympic Torch comes to Wales

There's now less than 3 months to go until the 2012 Olympics gets underway in Cardiff (yes, that's right. The very first event of the games is being staged in the Millennium Stadium).

And of course, before any Olympic games you need an Olympic flame procession and on the 25 and 26 May that's exactly what we get.  The flame will spend two days in South East Wales with the route taking it from Monmouth across to Abergavenny and then Blaenavon, Pontypool and Newport before heading to Cardiff for a big concert to mark its first day in Wales.

The following day sees the flame take in towns such as Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil and Bridgend before heading to Swansea.

Food, Flowers and Flames

Food FestivalWith three spectacular events packed into one fantastic weekend, Caerphilly will be the place to be.  Between 25 - 27 May the town will host its first ever Food Festival, the ever colourful Flower Festival before welcoming the Olympic Torch Relay.

With the town centre closed to traffic, the main streets will be adorned with stalls offering a food market through the town with the sizzling sounds and smells of the best local produce.  There'll also be plenty of entertainment with mad chefs, walking eggs, face paining, animal displays and even a skating tomato!

The highlight of the weekend will be the arrival of the Olympic Torch as it snakes its way through the town on the long journey from Olympia to London.  The torch arrives in the town at approximately 09:40am and will be the perfect way to kick off the day's festivities.
